“They followed the buffaloes and their babies along the trail heading into the woods.”
“The pride of lions looked at each other, satisfied with the direction the buffaloes were going. It was just a matter of time now. They were three. The plan was to encircle and isolate one of the calves.
The buffaloes were alerted to the scent of the lion and they started running away. The lions charged. Soon, they had their calf. That was when it’s mother saw them closing on the calf. She turned, and came back charging at the lions. The 1000-pound buffalo charged at the lions for over 20 minutes till they let go of the calf.
Thus mama buffalo saved the baby buffalo without caring for its own life.”
Neeta closed the book and looked at her 5-year-old son. He was thoughtful.
‘Mom, will you also save me if I was attacked by a lion?’
‘Always, my dear. Never doubt that,’ said Neeta and kissed him.
