J is for Juggling roles #AtoZchallenge

JI was swamped with work today.  i wrote a story but it was more apt for the letter ‘M’.  I tried to write another one but life intruded again.  So,  apologies for recycling a story from last year.  Enjoy!

‘Where are you Dia? Did you leave office?’ asked Sameer on the cell phone.

‘I have to test this program and send it to onshore.  Today is the deadline.  I will be working for another hour atleast,’  said Dia from office.   As an afterthought, she added,  ‘Let us order dinner,  it will be too late when I get home.’

‘Don’t worry about dinner.  You focus on your testing.  Be careful.  Don’t make mistakes.  Call me when you reach the station. I will pick you up,’  said Sameer.

Two hours later,  Dia comes home to the aroma of a hot dinner of rotis, dal, rice and vegetables.

Sameer had to cook again, she winces.

‘Thanks Sameer for making dinner,’ she puts down her laptop and hugs Sameer.

‘Dia, do I thank you for cooking food anytime?  You don’t have to feel guilty.  Remember, behind every successful  IT program,  there is an equally hard-working spouse.’

**This has been written for the A to Z Challenge 2016. My theme is A to Z in the life of Dia and Sameer, a geek and non-geek couple.  Short stories on their approach to daily life.  Do you know people like them?  Do share the stories with me. ***

The characters Dia and Sameer are fully imaginary.  Any likeness to people is purely coincidental.   The views are the characters’ own and light-hearted.  They are not endorsements.

  1. *not sure if my earlier comment was posted, so re-writing it*
Love the way you have been sketching Sameer as the progressive thinking, caring, open-minded guy who ticks all the right boxes, every single time.
    Fantastically done Lata 🙂

  3. Aaawww! At just the moment when I start rooting for Dia as my fave girl, Sameer does something so cute!
The last line is true and funny at the same time! 😀

Do rest for some time now. It surely has been a hectic day for you! 🙂
