Adventures in a Summer Village : More wishes

The story so far :

Ryan and Rex are twins spending their summer in a village.  Playing beside the lake they chance upon an old teapot.  Playfully,  Ryan rubs it.  Out comes a frog and a dwarf named Elmer sprouting quotes.  The frog says the Dwarf  Elmer is fake and is ready to grant 3 wishes to the boys when Elmer swats the frog and kills it.  The boys,  though scared,  ask for a palace as their first wish.  They get the palace but it is a miniature palace.   Elmer tells them that he can grant wishes only according to his size.  Read it all herehere, here and here.

The story continues :

‘That’s no palace.  Even our dog cannot live in this.   It is so small, ‘ says Ryan.

Elmer rubs his hands and says,  ‘I like not fair terms and a villain’s mind.  You never asked for a palace for you to live in.  So,  it is a palace.  I have granted your wish.’

The boys discuss again among themselves.  Elmer catches some snippets of their conversation.

‘Useless’ ‘lesson’ ‘scary’ and many such.

‘Our second wish is that we want YOU to live in the palace,’ says Rex.

Elmer’s eyes go wide.  He starts to protest.  ‘I cannot live in there. I want to live in the great outdoors,  up north.’

But despite himself,  the wish is taking effect.  Elmer’s head starts nodding and shaking, his hands start waving.  His face is distorted as he tries to stop it.  He curses his stupid curse as he is duty bound to fulfill all the wishes of the one who releases him from the teapot.

Elmer shrinks to the size of a football.  He looks comical with his wild white hair, large hands and tiny shoes.

The boys double up in laughter catching their tummies.

‘Make me big again boys.  I will grant you three more wishes, ‘ Elmer shouts but he can barely be heard above the laughter.

Elmer runs towards the boys.  But his small feet trip over each other and he falls.

  1. That was smart thinking by the boys! I hope they don’t fall for the dwarf’s words again. You are reviving the fantasy of fairyland again Lata, love it!
