If we were having coffee 7th October

cappuccino-7octIf we were having coffee,  I would tell you that it feels so good to write this post after a long break.  I like to take my coffee at a leisurely pace mostly on a Saturday, after a siesta.  It is a day I look forward to the entire week.  I have a holiday and the children, the hubby and the maid do not.  It means I can just lie in and do whatever I want.  Not every Saturday is so blessed,  but today it is.

After two weeks of incessant drizzling,  we finally have a sunny day today.  Every year,  by this time, the rains are long gone and it is hot at this time of the year.  I do not mind the rain,  but its been raining continuously for four months and now I have had enough.  Feels good to see the blue skies and the sun shining.  Another week, and then we will start cribbing about these sunny days and look forward to our mild winter which starts by end of November.  Diwali cleaning will kick in next week.  But today,  I will only rest.

I finished reading a fantasy novella in the morning.  The review will be up soon.  Let me confess.  I am not a fan of fantasy and will not read another one.  It feels like I am reading a cartoon show which my sons watch all the time. I cannot take it. Its not the writing, it is me.

I have now started on Saiswaroopa Iyer’s Abhaya which is raking in good reviews.  From the blurb, it looks like mythology meets fantasy or fiction.  I can still read a mythology any day.  I love those stories.

If we were having coffee,  I would also tell you that the week started off with a bang.  During the rains,  we decided to go to the Gateway of India.  I have seen this famous monument many times,  but never in the rain.  So, me and the younger son with my brother’s family made the trip downtown to see the Gateway of India and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.  I have posted couple of pictures on my Instagram account.  We wanted to walk the whole stretch,  but the rain made us get into a BEST Bus.  The bus journey was a first for my son. We loved it.  I would have preferred the double decker bus but it was not around.  We have already planned to visit the CSVMS Museum during the Diwali vacation.  But before that is the semester exams.

Instead of studying,  my boys are enjoying the Navratri dandiyas.  You see,  the spirit of Mumbai is ingrained since they are babies.  Work hard, party harder.

Have you started your preparations for Diwali?  Or Diwali vacation?

  1. Hi Lata. Loved reading this post. Yes, 4 mths of incessant rains was a bit too much wasn’t it. Nothing to beat the happiness of having a holiday with the world around you running around. The museum is a great place, I went there last year and kids had a good time. Abhaya sounds good. Cheers **raises coffee cup**

    1. Aw Thank you Corinne! I am not the very creative. Been observing other blogs and trying out. I love your blog designs and regularly check the changes.

  2. I love this series of posts – If we were having coffee – we actually get to know about the person behind the blogger. I must do something similar on my blog, but it’s just procrastination that wins every single time. Sigh.

  3. I know what you mean when you say too much rain. We’ve also have enough this year. But I dare not complain lest it goes all dry like last year. The kids will end their exams about 10 days before Diwali so until then life is in suspension.

  4. Ha! So you had some “me-time”. 🙂
I started with this series on my blog too. Of course, inspired by Sanch. I try to post on Mondays though. But it feels awesome to look back to the week I had and share to readers over a cup of coffee!
And fantasy novels? Yup. Even I am skeptical of reading them. I had a smile when you compared it to the cartoons your boys watch 😛

    1. Thanks Shalini. I do an on and off #weekendcoffeeshare. Monday mornings are more peaceful for me and I do some writing then. Fantasy and horror are a complete no no for me. My sons drag me to all those movies with mindless action like Transformers, Minions, X-Men. I have slept through some of them.

  5. I wonder about Diwali cleaning. I have been in Trinidad for Diwali, where it is widely celebrated…I loved it. I am also a major fan of Lakshmi in general. The Gateway of India is very impressive. It must have been a fun trip with the kids. Thanks for the coffee. Wish you a happy week ahead.

    1. Thank you Pamela for sharing the coffee. During Diwali, we give a thorough cleaning and wash to the entire house. I just put in the sofa covers for wash today. Next are the cupboards, the curtains. My hands will be full the next few weeks.
