Daily Prompt : Writing space

Daily Prompt has asked ‘Where do you produce your best writing — at your desk, on your phone, at a noisy café? Tell us how the environment affects your creativity.’

I have been wondering what to write for this as I do not really have a set place where I can get inspired and start writing / typing away.  But I read some of the other blogs and felt, they also sound like me.

I do have the corner in the bedroom wherein, I have a table, laptop, unlimited power supply, wi-fi connection, printer, my music, books, blah blah.  But, where is it that I really write.  I have felt, most of the times I do the thinking when going about my daily chores.  The process is always in the background of my thoughts. I plan, write, order, recheck the posts in my mind.  Then its just a matter of keying into the laptop.

Of course, I do re-read the points I put into the post because, sometimes what you think may not sound good when seen in written form.  I also note down random thoughts when I am not at my desk on my phone.  I can refer to the same later when actually putting in the writing.

Regarding noises, distractions, well I can thankfully do the job under any circumstances.  I just switch off from the surroundings and can fully concentrate on the task.  Something which I became an expert in when I was a child.  At that time, my family was living in a small 1 room flat.  With my siblings for company and a constant stream of guests,  I had to concentrate on my studies. With so many distractions around,  I have learnt to switch off and concentrate on only the necessary activity.  It has helped me over the years, working in noisy places,  studying when travelling or at home with the kids around.  So, what desk are we talking about?

Offside Memories : Tennis

Offside Memories : Wimbledon 1988

Team USA is playing today in the soccer World Cup in Brazil. Do you have any funny/harrowing/interesting memories from a sporting event you attended, participated in, or watched?

I am not a great football fan.  But when I was young,  I used to watch a lot of tennis.  My favorite tennis player at the time was Boris Becker.  Well,  I started watching tennis when Boris had burst upon the scene by winning the 1985 Wimbledon title.   I was around 11 at the time and was crazy about Boris.  In those days, in India,  we could watch very limited sports as there were  only 2 television channels.   They used to telecast only the semi-finals and finals of the ladies and men’s events.

This was during the 1988 final between Boris Becker and Stefan Edberg, the great rivals of grasscourt tennis at the time.   Boris had won the titles in 1985, 86.  He had lost in the second round in 1987.  In 1988, he was back in the final and expected to win the title.   He also, won the first set of the final.  The second set he lost to a tie-breaker 6-7.  And the third set was also lost to Stefan Edberg.  By this time, there was nobody I hated more than Stefan Edberg.   And finally, the fourth set also Becker lost to Edberg and the championship belonged to Edberg.   By this time, I was on the verge of tears with my favorite Becker having lost to a better player.

And then during the trophy distribution ceremony,  Becker asked Edberg to let him touch the trophy.  Edberg allowed Becker to touch the trophy and that was it.  I just could not control my tears.  I cried a lot that day.  I felt so bad then for Boris for having lost the trophy which at that time I felt was rightfully his.

Boris,  I have never felt so sad in my life after watching a sporting event.

The next year in 1989, it was again Boris Becker v/s Stefan Edberg.  But this time Boris won and I was the happiest person in the world.

Now, when I see the matches online,  I am amazed at the beautiful tennis these two have played.  I stopped hating Stefan Edberg long time ago and now he is also a favorite.

Rare Medium

Describe a typical day in your life — but do it in a form or in a medium you’ve rarely — if ever – used before. If you’re a photoblogger, write a poem. If you’re a poet, write an open letter. If you’re a travel blogger, write a rant. (These are all examples — choose whatever form you feel like trying out!)

Instant Celebrity : Ken Follett

Instant Celebrity

If you could be a famous person for a day, who would you be? Why?

To be honest, I am happy as I am.  But, for the daily prompt, I have been thinking whom would I like to be for a day.

I did think of the usual movie stars and sports stars.  But, they held no attraction as such.  The movie stars must be putting on make up and being in front of harsh lights the whole day.  The sports stars put in hours of practice, exercise and follow strict diet in a day.

I also thought up of historical figures whom I can be for a day.  Maybe a Queen of some country.   Again, life seemed boring there.  What she must have done everyday of her life when she didn’t have to even lift a finger to do anything.

Then I thought of Authors.  I am assuming their life will be interesting. Imagine looking up many books for the detailed research.  Also spend time at the story locations to get a feel of things.   And then spending hours writing up something which the readers are waiting for with bated breadth.   Yes, I would like to be a famous author for a day.  I would love to be Ken Follett for a day as he writes on stuff which i enjoy a lot.   If you see his tweets, he seems to be having a blessed and relaxed life too.  That’s who I want to be.  Just relax, do your favourite things, be appreciated and earn tons of money!  C’est la vie!
