‘Hold on ..Let me ask my Facebook group friend,’ said Dia when Sameer wanted to know where to stay in Bangalore.   He was headed over to the garden city for four days.  He had Googled and as usual there were a whole plethora of options.

‘I have posted a message and she will get back when she does,’ said Dia flopping on to the sofa.

‘I cannot wait for your friend to discover that you have sent a message.  Let me call up my friends,’ said Sameer.

The next half an hour was spent by Sameer calling up various friends and obscure relatives.

He was finally able to book at a Hotel recommended by a friend’s friend’s sister.

Dia decided to check on her Facebook friend.  And there she had messaged the hotel name. Continue reading

‘Sameer,  it is a musical performance, you have to wear a kurta,’ wailed Dia.

‘Who says so?’ asked Sameer.

‘It is the norm.  Everyone will be in traditional wear.  You look absolutely good in a Kurta.  Wear that rust colored one. ‘

‘Traditional wear!  Then I will wear a mundu and a veshti. hahaha,’ said Sameer breaking into laughter  ‘I can even fold the mundu and tuck it in.’

Dia stared in horror.  ‘You will not do that.’  Continue reading

T is for Tea #atozchallenge

Today, I am recycling one of my earlier stories. Some of you may have already read this one.

T‘Wake up Dia. Get me my tea,’ said Sameer shaking Dia.

‘It’s Sunday.  It’s your day to make tea,’ Dia said through sleepy wakefulness.

‘But you make better tea.   And I like my day to start on a good note. Please dear,’ continued Sameer.

‘Hmm But it’s Sunday.  Your turn,’ Dia turned away from Sameer and tried to go back to sleep again.

‘Ok Will you make tea if I promise to not disturb you when you are on Facebook and Whatsapp with your friends today?’

Dia got up, wide awake.  ‘YES!’ she cried and rushed to the kitchen to make tea.

Sameer thanked the social media Gods.

**This has been written for the A to Z Challenge 2016. My theme is A to Z in the life of Dia and Sameer, a geek and non-geek couple.  Short stories on their approach to daily life.  Do you know people like them?  Do share the stories with me. ***

The characters Dia and Sameer are fully imaginary.  Any likeness to people is purely coincidental.   The views are the characters’ own and light-hearted.  They are not endorsements.

It was a holiday they had planned three months ago.  As usual,  Dia had done the complete planning right from dates, stay, sight-seeing, packing and finally travelling.  She loved to do stuff like this.   Besides,  anything unplanned left her anxious.

So,  they landed at the holiday spot with the recommended minimum luggage.  Sameer had dissuaded her from carrying any of her gadgets,  not even the e-reader he had insisted.  She had agreed to it except for the cellphone which she was not ready to leave behind.  Sameer agreed.

It was a sight seeing day which they had booked with the local hotel.  They boarded the mini-van for sight-seeing, made friends with some other couples.  And the journey started.  They were passing through some beautiful landscapes when Dia decided to take a picture.  She fished for her phone in her sling bag.  It was not there.  Frantically,  she searched the small bag again.  Positive.  It was not there.  She panicked that the phone has been nicked. Dia put down the E-reader and switched off the light.  The E-Reader was gifted by Sameer on her birthday the first time they were together.

The next morning,  she picked up the Kindle again for some exciting read.  But alas,  she had to prepare breakfast.  Feeling irritated,  she asked Sameer to hep her.

Dia and Sameer were in the kitchen preparing breakfast.  Sameer was on the floor scraping the coconut and Dia was kneading the dough to make some puttu.  Dia loved to have traditional breakfasts on Sundays.  On the other days,  its a grab and go of bread or cornflakes or rotis.   The doorbell rang and Dia went to get it.

It was the online shopping guy.  Surprised,  Dia asked, ‘Did you order something, Sameer?’

‘Yes,  for you.  Check it out.’ Continue reading
